Groundhog Day?

3 posts in this topic

Hey all!

For those of you who homeschool, what helps your family make each day/week unique? While we're giving it our best to keep learning fun, there are some days it feels like that old movie, "Groundhog Day", where everyday feels the same and no one is enthusiastic about trudging off to the table to get things done. (sigh)

Here's to finding something special everyday and making the most of it!

With my son it feels like Groundhogs Day no matter how hard I try to make it special or think outside the box. With my daughter as she has a love for learning no day is the same with her. Don't get me wrong she has her moments. We really have been enjoying putting in some extra things with our day with other homeschoolers.

I've been doing a loop schedule.  A few things are done every day, but other subjects rotate.  This way we literally are doing something different every day.  Our hardest day is always the day after co-op.  It's so hard to sit back down and "do school" after a fun day out of the house,  so once co-op starts (Thursdays) I am planning to make Fridays lighter and a little different.  We'll do something completely different in the history/science time slot.  I also told the kids if their behavior is good through the week they can have Free Read Fridays (instead of assigned reading for literature) and I told my oldest he can do a "fun" supplemental math program he is wanting to try.  (The kid hates math, so him requesting to try something is enough for me to figure out how to make it work!)  The last thing we do every day is one of the rotating subjects, and I planned Friday's spot as catch-up only, so if they are diligent during the week and have nothing left to finish up, they're finished early!  Hopefully this new plan is easy to implement and works as I envision it.  HAHA!

Some days I cancel afternoon subjects and we go outside, play board games or pop popcorn and watch the movie version of a book.  Just to shake things up a little.
